Victoria Falls is the largest waterfall in the world. It is situated along the Zambezi River, a river which separates the countries of Zimbabwe and Zambia. The famous waterfalls are named as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The following are facts about the waterfalls:

Fact 1
Another name for the Victoria Falls is Mosi-oa-Tunya loosely meaning ‘the smoke that thunders’, a name given to the falls by the indigenous Tonga people.

Fact 2
The falls are shared by Zimbabwe and Zambia. Livingstone is the nearest town on the Zambian side of the border and Victoria Falls is the nearest town on the Zimbabwean side of the border.

Fact 3
The Falls are 108m high and 1,708m wide, the largest in the world.

Fact 4
David Livingstone was not the first person to discover the Falls because there were indigenous people living there. However, David Livingstone is thought to be the first European explorer to see Mosi-oa-Tunya on 17 November 1855.

The Victoria Falls are named after Queen Victoria, an honor given to her by David Livingstone, the first European explorer and missionary to see the Falls.

The Victoria Falls has the Victoria Falls National Park and Zambezi National Park on the Zimbabwean side and the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park on the Zambian side.

The Falls emits sprays and mist into the sky which can be seen at an average distance of 50km away.

The maximum water flow over the falls is 500 million liters per minute during floods.

The minimum flow is 10 million liters per minute during the dry season.
